Heather Ross:

Welcome to At the Table where we are connecting entrepreneurs, discovering missions and building communities with purpose body, soul, mind and business. With Charlie and Heather, with free time solutions.

Charlie Hoffman:

Good morning and welcome to the table. I'm Charlie.

Heather Ross:

I'm. Heather and we love coming here every week and having a discussion about what we're reading to help ourselves grow, but to be authentic and grow with you. It's such an exciting journey. It's so much more fun if you have someone on it with you.

Charlie Hoffman:

It is you know, these are our intention list to bring some business tools and some life tools to you so that we can learn and grow together. Because we're doing the work. We've shared the journey with each other. We want to share the journey with you too, but what we find is that it crosses over. It's all about living in our authenticity of who we are yeah, and shining our light into the world, no matter if it's business or serviceable Right. Right.

Heather Ross:

Showing up as ourselves every day, in the moment.

Charlie Hoffman:

Showing up as your best self every day, in the moment. So I'm really excited this week because we get to talk about some really cool stuff and I'm so excited.

Heather Ross:

So we are reading the Voice of Knowledge by Don Miguel Ruiz and we are on chapter 8. Common sense and blind faith Right? I get goosebumps just saying that.

Charlie Hoffman:

I like how he describes common sense, as if you take all the teachings of all the religions all around the world and you break it down and you take out all the fluff, the translations by the person Right.

Heather Ross:

Get to the essence of what you're saying. Get to the essence, that's the common sense.

Charlie Hoffman:

Yeah, and it is common sense. It's like love people, take care of yourself, love yourself, love people, take care of yourself, take care of people, show love to yourself and show love to other people. That's it when you really break it down. It's like just be love. So when you are in love, right, when you are being love, you know, I've heard a pastor in the past tell me be Jesus with skin on, right Jesus with skin on.

Heather Ross:

I like it.

Charlie Hoffman:

Because we are human beings, not human doings. Yeah, and so when we learn to be in our authentic selves and we shine our light to those around you, yeah, and then that light that's being shine is glowing instead of like a little light Right.

Heather Ross:

It changes what we're giving to the world.

Charlie Hoffman:

It has a ripple effect. Yeah, so the work that we are doing every day is going to impact other people, because we are shining your light, because we are being authentic, because we are doing and being in living in the place of love.

Heather Ross:

Yes, so good, all right. So, and then, blind faith, what it was? So what this reminded me of was the Simon Sinek thing that if you haven't heard of Simon Sinek, he's awesome Google him and go listen to his motivational speeches. Yeah.

Charlie Hoffman:

He's an awesome businessman, entrepreneur, and he's got some really good points. But blind faith reminded me of what the YouTube video I was watching yesterday about belief and being a leader. If you lead because you believe so deeply in what you're doing, in the mission, whatever it is, you will, people will blindly follow you. They don't have to know what's at the end Right, they blindly follow you. And we saw the same thing with the undercover billionaire, undercover billionaire that girl.

Charlie Hoffman:

She just followed her blind faith and built a million dollar business in 90 days. Yeah, yeah.

Heather Ross:

Pretty cool stuff. It is really cool stuff and not giving in to that anybody. Shitty committee Right. So not giving in because we've talked about that voice of knowledge, uh-huh.

Charlie Hoffman:

That's the voice of knowledge. Is what you're taught to believe? Yes, not your own, and your knowing yes. That's wisdom, wisdom. Yeah, isn't that cool, that's so cool.

Heather Ross:

So there's some really good points to ponder in this chapter. If you want to read or read or slash, listen to Charlie Reid. Uh-huh, I love listening to Charlie Reid. So oftentimes I listen to it before we do this. Oh shh, no, I love listening to Charlie Reid. It's such a gift that she does to us. It's very relaxing and just you give the whole chapter.

Charlie Hoffman:

You give the whole chapter. So and I try to edit where I stumble over my words and get tongue to hide and mouth goes dry, things like that, but sometimes I miss those. But that's just Part of it. That's just part of it. I'm not good at it. Yeah, I'm not going to be nitpicky, and so.

Heather Ross:

It's not a paid voiceover recording of a book.

Charlie Hoffman:

Right. It's more like you're listening to your fifth grade teacher read a story. Right, that's basically my approach.

Heather Ross:

Anyway so first point to ponder a word is pure magic. That word, that word is pure magic. It is the power that comes directly from God and faith that is the force that directs the power. Everything in our virtual reality is created with the word. We use the word for the creation of our story, to make sense out of everything we experience.

Charlie Hoffman:

So everything we say, you know, acting as if Right, you are manifesting that and what manifestation is is you believe this is doing to create.

Heather Ross:

This is like what we talked about with Coach Jackie and we practiced that such a powerful episode a couple of weeks ago Go check it out if you missed it but just saying and believing and really feeling into what you want to bring into your life and it comes into your life. Yeah, and you will not. You will be amazed when you start this, like how things come into your life.

Charlie Hoffman:

Right, yeah, I got a Charlie having a meme.

Heather Ross:

Yeah. I mean now I have an iPad and that was on my vision board list for a year, Like there's just these little things you're like wow, oh yeah.

Charlie Hoffman:

It's coming different ways, yeah, and so it's really cool to see how what you've been manifesting appears, if you're open to the outcome, not how you get there, yes, but also it might look a little differently than you think, because when Heather was manifesting an SUV, a property with trees, a she shed- my furniture. I didn't know I was manifesting a Charlie right I had no idea that all these things would come into her life, manifested as me. Right, right, it's pretty cool, it's really cool.

Heather Ross:

And so envisioning like the next part of my life includes this, yeah, and then just see how it happens, right, because it's magic, yeah.

Charlie Hoffman:

So we and we have been manifesting some pretty big kind of scary but really exciting.

Heather Ross:

We've thrown up once, and maybe not scary enough if it's only once, no, but I feel like we've grown a lot and now we can take those bigger steps because we've grown a lot.

Charlie Hoffman:

Right, because we've had the faith Right and we believe so much in what we are doing every day and we're energized by it every day.

Heather Ross:

Yes, it's just awesome. Anyway, all right, let's do faith. Faith is the force that gives life to every word, to every belief. That is the store stored in our mind. If we agree with the concept of our faith, we agree, the lighting's really bad. If we agree with the concept of our faith, we agree with the concept. Our faith is there. We agree with the concept. I'm fighting it, obviously.

Charlie Hoffman:

It's broken up on the page.

Heather Ross:

We agree with the concept. Our faith is there and we keep our memory, keep it in our memory right, because we agree with it. We keep it Okay. Faith is the mortar that holds our beliefs together and gives a sense of direction to the entire dream.

Charlie Hoffman:

That's your foundation. That's how you build your foundation literally. Wow, because you are rebuilding those beliefs. Yeah, and that's the mortar that sticks all the dreams together. That's really cool, isn't that a cool visual?

Heather Ross:

I like that. I really like that. As I was growing back when I was in insurance, I would talk about laying the foundations of bricks of knowledge, of learning things, of learning different sales skills, learning different things, how to talk to people, and I think it's really cool to think about. All of those bricks are now solid in a faith in my own self, right In my own capabilities. That's powerful.

Charlie Hoffman:

Yeah, it is pretty cool. Okay, real faith, or free faith, is what you are feeling in this moment. This moment is real. You have faith in life, faith in yourself, faith for no reason. This is the power of your creation. In this moment, from this point of power, you can create whatever you want to create in any direction. Right, the word is so powerful and To me, I keep thinking about how, like even in you know, I grew up in the church right in the Bible, that first Word, right, that was spoken by God.

Heather Ross:

Manifested creation right, right.

Charlie Hoffman:

We can do that too. We have that power within us. Even the Bible says that his spirit lives within us. So if he's able to do that, so are we Right, which totally puts a whole different perspective on religion and stuff the more I learned the more I like Realize how connected everything is, and it's just so cool it is really I find it very fascinating.

Heather Ross:

I get really. It's like Making some of these connections and having these aha moments.

Charlie Hoffman:

Oh, oh, that makes.

Heather Ross:

Or it's filtered through the hierarchy and that's a whole mother.

Charlie Hoffman:

Conversation yeah, it's. It's filtered through human error. Yeah, let's just leave it at that Okay.

Charlie Hoffman:

So we're on chapter 21 of career self-care by Minda Zetlin this week and Sesting. Chapter 21 talks about what do you really want, not just things and stuff, but what do you want out of life? How do you want to be remembered, mm-hmm. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? And the the Example she uses this one we all know pretty well is Steve Jobs. He Started Apple computers with Steve Wozniak in his parents garage right and they built this. They started making money with this little thing they called the blue box. That would interfere with the dial tone of, like, long distance calls, so then people wouldn't be charged for long distance calls, because back in the day, long distance calls Extra.

Heather Ross:

We wouldn't be able to call each other because we'd be on the party line and they would be on the phone, or somebody would be on the internet and I'll have to be, it was oh man a.

Charlie Hoffman:

Thing technology.

Charlie Hoffman:

And part of that is thanks to mr Steve Jobs, who he actually did not. He was a really good person that saw Technology and design going together, but the how everything was done and the man was all or at least mostly other people's ideas that he was able to put together and present right, and that was part of his genius. But Before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer he was kind of known to be kind of a dirt in the Of a boss, right, he was kind of known to be a big a hole and he would he would like literally make his employees cry, yeah, like on the regular and things like that. But at some point he left Apple for a little while. He kind of went on this like you know, buddhist quest kind of situation, spent his 30 days in the desert.

Charlie Hoffman:

Yeah, but he took a few years off, yeah, and went and found himself and returned to Apple as the CEO of Apple and Even when he resigned as CEO, he stayed on the board until the day he died and he even called one of the executives to Check on a project they were working on, the his last full day on this earth.

Charlie Hoffman:

Yeah, he died the next day like crazy, crazy dedicated was what he was, and that's kind of the point of this chapter is figuring out what you want and being dedicated to who you are and what you want. Because Steve Jobs was authentic to himself through his whole process, right, right, everybody saw him go from able CEO to. He was in a much better place after his, you know. You know, he was literally looking death in the face and he wanted to live his life, was no regrets and keep serving and keep serving. So, to talk about following your heart, finding out what matters, just really really getting in tune with who you are so that you can again shine in that light, mm, hmm, you know, being your authentic self, shining that light to the world.

Charlie Hoffman:

User word to shine. Yeah, and Steve Jobs, he did that every day. Right, he lived his cruise for that day, every day.

Heather Ross:

Right, right up, yeah, to the end, right. So the exercises to try are pretty brilliant.

Charlie Hoffman:

Describe yourself to a stranger. Okay, imagine you're sitting next to a stranger on a long train ride. The stranger asks who are you? It's a big question, right? Who are you? They aren't looking. They aren't looking for your name, but for you to say who you are, the things that you consider most important. Your answer can be as long as you want and it can include whatever information you like. Write down your answer. For each piece of information you include, ask yourself am I happy with that?

Heather Ross:

Mm, hmm.

Charlie Hoffman:

If you aren't ask yourself if there's something you can do to change it and I would encourage you to go deeper.

Heather Ross:

I was just going to say the same thing, so I will go a little deeper Because basically we did this as a team yesterday at a team meeting, totally by accident.

Charlie Hoffman:

Right.

Heather Ross:

I was like dude, we just did this and just like having other people help making you dig deeper, right, that really helped me to see how others do, right, right.

Heather Ross:

Right, it's, it's yeah, so, and then is that how you want to show up? So I've been very intentional with the last few years of like heirloom legacy, like focus, growth, like really staying focused on the kind of person that I want to be and how I want to be able to be showing up in the world, so you can do that too, and then when you're doing that, like you, you know yeah, you've done.

Charlie Hoffman:

I would ask also ask yourself if you're not happy with it and why. Why does that? Why are you not happy with it? Before you ask yourself what you can do about it, ask yourself why you're not happy about it, like this doesn't make me happy.

Heather Ross:

It doesn't make you happy you might be surprised by the answers.

Charlie Hoffman:

You might have some processing to do. I apologize and had to answer with the others. That maybe should. Okay.

Heather Ross:

Sorry, not sorry, because when we shed our tears we are processing and letting go. So that's such a gift to ourselves, yeah, to let those things happen. Sometimes it's hard to find that quiet time to do that.

Charlie Hoffman:

My husband actually stayed up really late last night and he gets up early in the morning because he was letting himself process some things and he prefers to do that in his own private space. You know, kind of by himself To be a parent we do too, right.

Heather Ross:

Right, like I know that you like to get up early and do it and I tend to like to do it like midday, like away from everybody, I need that early time.

Charlie Hoffman:

That's when everybody else is asleep and not a distraction. So number two this week is do a should versus want. Review.

Charlie Hoffman:

Oh man, we totally did this yesterday. So you know, pick a workday from the past week, grab your calendar and review the day, remember as much of the day as you can and ask yourself why you did each activity. There are three possible answers because you wanted to, because it was expected of you, or because, even though you may not have wanted to do it at that moment, you chose to do it in pursuit of something you wanted. Did you eat oatmeal for breakfast because you enjoy it? Or because it was expected of you? Or did you eat oatmeal instead of the doughnut you wanted? Because your goal is to feel and be healthy? Your mindset about it Major, yes, your mindset about it does matter. This is just an example.

Charlie Hoffman:

I would again, I would dig a little deeper. You know I like getting up in the morning. Why do I like getting up in the morning? Because it's quiet, I focus, I actually have time to think and process things, and I need that time for myself and for my own mental health, and I know that about me, that that is my time to work on me. And then my husband likes to do it late at night, right, right. So why do I get up early in the morning, one because I love what I do, and two because that's my me time, right, and it's okay for me to have my me time at a time that works best for me it would get early in the morning, for whether it's in the evenings or whatever, right.

Heather Ross:

My schedule's so different and that's okay, right, because it's about what's best for you and figuring that out and some of like, because I personally have done some of those like morning routine challenges and things and I can do it on a challenge. But there comes, when it's not a challenge, that there's some weird limiting beliefs that keep popping up around waking up and it's so weird. So I'm really being curious about that. I'm curious about that.

Charlie Hoffman:

The other day it was because she weren't allowed to get up too early. Yes, it's like as a child, this one wasn't allowed to get up too early, but she wasn't allowed to sleep in too much either. It was like a specific time you get up when your alarm goes off, goes off, or else like it's weird.

Heather Ross:

So I've always had this challenge of when the alarm goes off. Well, maybe I'm not really supposed to be up now, right, right. So then it creates this awful wake up not feeling good, right, and like shaming myself for being awake Right Before I've even had a thought, am I?

Charlie Hoffman:

Like it's so awful, right, the things we do to ourselves. And then, if you are looking at these things with curiosity, you'll notice these things. Oh, that's where that comes from.

Heather Ross:

Instead of judging myself for oversleeping or having to hit snooze, right, I got curious Like where did this come from? In me, like why is this a thing, mm-hmm, you know? And then just getting curious about it. Yeah yeah, it's pretty cool, it's creepy.

Charlie Hoffman:

It's creepy, but it is cool.

Heather Ross:

Especially since it's personally. As a child, I had such a spectrum of caregiving, so it was like it's like different layers.

Charlie Hoffman:

Yeah, everyone had. You had to follow and you had to remember whose rules were in place.

Heather Ross:

Yeah, and don't wake mom up, or don't wake grandma up, or don't wake grandpa up, or you know just period.

Charlie Hoffman:

Don't wake anybody else, don't wake people up.

Heather Ross:

I want that note. Just stay curious and enjoy the process, and if you do need help, there's always 988. You can call 24 hours a day. There's somebody available to take a call.
